Book by Imthiaz Bakeer Markar
Idayam Pesuhirathu (Conscience Speaks) is the title of a collection
of newspaper articles on current affairs authored by one-time Media
Minister and UNP parliamentarian Imthiaz Bakeer Markar to be launched
next Saturday by the Bakeer Markar Centre for National Unity. The book
comprises the translation to Tamil of a series of articles published in
the Sinhala press by Bakeer Markar, who, in addition to his political
and legal career, is known as a regular commentator and writer.
Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam will be the chief guest at
the launch ceremony to be held at the Al Fasiyathul Nasriya Balika
Vidyalaya, Beruwala.
Ron Soya on Rupavahini tomorrow
Kalasuri Latha Walpola's musical concert Ron Soya held to mark 70
years of her musical career under the patronage of Speaker Karu
Jayasuriya will be telecast by the Rupavahini on Monday 25, at 10.00
p.m.
The event was organised by the Mass Media Ministry. Lata sang about
25 songs with music provided by Mahinda Bandara.
Memorial lecture on Saturday
The Reverend Canon Malini Devananda Memorial Lecture, delivered by
Prof. Neloufer de Mel, Senior Professor, Department of English,
University of Colombo, will be held on Saturday, April 30 at 5.30 p.m.
at the Diocesan Chambers, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7.
The lecture is organised by the Board of Women's Work of the Diocese
of Colombo, Church of Ceylon.

The Sinhala New Year celebration of Ananda College Past Teachers'
Association will be held today, April 24 at the Ananda College Centenary
Building.
Sai Baba 'Walk for Values' today
The Colombo Sai Seva Samithi has organised a 'Walk for Values' to
raise awareness of basic human values: Sathya, Dharma, Shanthi, Prema
and Avihinsa as prescribed by Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba Baba, today,
April 24, starting from Sivananda Nilayan, Rudra Mawatte, Wellawatte at
6 a.m. and wind up at the Colombo Sai Seva Samithi at Barnes Place,
Colombo 7.
P.R. Anthonis memorial lecture
Dr. Nihal Jayawickrama will deliver the P.R. Anthonis Memorial
Lecture on May 11 at 5.30 p.m. at the Sasakawa Memorial Cultural Centre
auditorium, Colombo.
The event which is organised by the Lanka-Japan Friendship Society
will be on the subject 'Healing the Nation - A Question of Leadership'
The theme of the lecture will be the challenges of reconciliation -
not only an issue between the major communities but also concerns every
unjust situation in the country. Dr. Nihal Jayawickrama is a
distinguished academic and a former Secretary to the Ministry of
Justice.
Avurudu at Ruwanwella
The Avurudu celebrations organised by the Sudath Manjula Foundation,
in collaboration with Ranjith Siyambalapitiya Foundation and the
Mahipala Herath Janasarana Foundation and sponsored by Dreamron
Cosmetics was held at the Ruwanwella Ebewewa esplanade recently. Here
the Avurudu Kumari Buddhi Jayawardhana with first runner-up Gayani
