Call for nominations for the 6th Truth Foundation Human Rights Award

Nominations for the 6th Truth Foundation Human Rights Award will be accepted till May 24, 2016. It is part of the commemorative events of the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture held annually on June 26,.

The Truth Foundation Human Rights Award is granted by the Truth Foundation to an individual or organisation from South Korea or abroad that has made a significant contribution to help and heal survivors of torture and state-sponsored violence, as well as to prevent such violence.

Through the Award, the Truth Foundation seeks to respect those who have endured unimaginable pain as a result of torture and state-sponsored violence and to help put an end to such violence.

The Selection Committee for the Award will review nominations by June 10, 2016.

The recipient of the award will be made known on June 20 and the Award will be presented on June 24, 2016 at the commemorative ceremony on United Nations Day in Support of Victims of Torture.

The Award recipient, while being presented with prize money, a medal and an award certificate will also qualify to be a Selection Committee member for the following year's Truth Foundation Human Rights Award.

Survivors of torture or state-sponsored violence who have contributed to the defence of human dignity, individuals or organisations from South Korea or abroad that have worked for the prevention of torture and state-sponsored violence and or have provided assistance and healing to survivors are eligible for nomination.

Nominations are limited to one nominee per recommender (organisation) and the deadline for nominations is May 24, 2016.

All mailed submissions that are post-marked up to the date of the deadline will be valid.

The Truth Foundation, if it deems necessary, may ask for additional materials regarding the candidate's work.
