New US embassy complex to come up on 6-acre seaside
The US State Department has given a US$ 155 million contract to a US
construction for building a new embassy complex in Colombo , US media
reported yesterday.
Biz Journal, published in Birmingham, Alabama, reported that
Alabama-based Caddell Construction Co. has received its 26th contract
with the U.S. State Department after being awarded the design and build
contract for the new U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka.
The Montgomery-based firm will be developing the 6-acre seaside site
in Colombo, Sri Lanka adjacent to the existing embassy building in the
heart of Colombo's elite Kollupitiya district. The project will include
a new office building, U.S. Marine residence, compound access building
and a warehouse.
Also included in the development will be an entrance and arrival
plaza, paved terraces, landscapes gardens, roadways and unique interior
architectural finishes decided on by the interior design consultants.
Caddell engineers will arrive in Sri Lanka soon to initiate design plans
and project work.
The contract, which is set for a duration of 48 months, is worth
$155,941,000 and was awarded by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of
Overseas Buildings Operations. Since 2000, Caddell's contracts with the
U.S. State Department have amounted to a total of $2.9 billion. |
