Gemfields to call for EOIs from mining companies

Following an announcement in 2014 to look for opportunities in the Sri Lankan sapphire and gemstone sector, Gemfields plc, one of the world's leading suppliers of responsibly sourced coloured gemstones hopes to go ahead with the next phase.

The company will shortly call for expressions of interest from local mining companies to set up an organized supply chain in the Sri Lankan gemstone industry.

Gemfields will offer support to the Sri Lankan gemstone industry through its technical abilities, proprietary grading systems and marketing methods.

When the supply chain is set up, the gems will be offered to potential buyers via Gemfields' auction platforms, thereby adding value to Sri Lanka's gemstone production, growing the sector and contributing to economic development.

CEO, Gemfields, Ian Harebottle said, "We are pleased to start the next phase of activity in the Sri Lankan gemstone industry. World famous for the quality of gemstones, we are optimistic we will be able to bring our expertise to this already-established market for the benefit of local mining communities and the Sri Lankan gemstone industry".
