Navy Commander opens Reverse Osmosis plant in Thalawa
A Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant, an intiative of the Sri lanka Navy(SLN)
was installed and opened on Friday at Thalawa Maha . This is another of
the Navy's community service programmes to prevent Chronic Kidney
Disease(CKD), Making use of the latest technology, the Commander of the
Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne joined the opening ceremony of
the RO plant online.
The Navy's Research and Development Unit utilized their expertise and
technical know-how to install this RO plant in the Thalawa area, where a
high prevalence of CKD ease) is recorded. Over 1800 children, and150
teachers of Thalawa Maha Vidyalaya and 350 families in the area will
benefit from the Navy's gesture.
Addressing the gathering online, Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne promised
to setup 50 more Reverse Osmosis plants which are made according to the
highest standard but at a relatively low cost by the Navy's Research and
Development Unit, to fulfil the safe drinking water requirement of
school children in North Central Province.
He said the Navy's Research and Development Unit was taking the
initiative to invent a mobile RO plant for school children in the
Padaviya and Sripura areas and also to invent of solar powered RO plants
instead of the electric ones, in the future.
The ceremony was attended by the Sangha, the Commander North Central
Naval Area, Commodore Merril Wickramasinghe, principal, teachers and
school children of Thalawa Maha Vidyalaya including a large number of
residents in the area. |
