To curb fraud and corruption:
Forensic auditing at AG’s Dept.
In a bid to curb fraud and corruption, the Auditor General’s
Department will introduce forensic auditing. The initiation comes with
the training program that will be held on IT systems and Forensic
Audits.
The program is organised by the United State Agency for International
Development (USAID) in coordination with the Auditor General’s
Department of Sri Lanka (AGDSL) and will be held from August 8 to 15.
Trainees on completion will serve as resource persons and impart the
knowledge to other audit staff. These audits introduced for the first
time at the Auditor General’s Department will help to crackdown on
corruption and fraud and will help the Government to realize democratic
and economic reforms, a spokesman said.
After the completion of IT Systems and Forensic Audits, it will
operate separately to carry out services more effectively and
efficiently.
Forensic audits often provide expert evidence and testimony at a
trial related to corruption. Furthermore, it also provides an accounting
analysis suitable to the court to form the basis for discussion.
IT System audits are required to determine whether the use of IT
System facilitates efficient and effective use of government resources,
the spokesman said.
The training programs are a part of USAID’s Short Term Assistance to
improve Public Finance Reforms which works with government agencies to
meet democratic and economic reforms priorities. |
