LAWASIA Sri Lanka 2016 from August 12-15

The Bar Association held a media briefing on Thursday to launch the 29th LAWASIA Conference and the Golden Jubilee of LAWASIA which will be held from August 12 to 15 in Colombo.

The inauguration of the LAWASIA Conference will be held at the BMICH on August 12 and the technical sessions at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel on August 13. The conference inauguration reception will be held at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel on August 12.

The LAWASIA 50th anniversary cultural night will be held at the Galle Face Hotel on August 13 and the Golden Jubilee dinner dance at the Hilton Colombo on August 14.

LAWASIA , the law association for the Asia and the Pacific was formed in 1966. The Conference will provide a forum to promote cross-jurisdictional exchanges of legal information and education in the Asia Pacific region. The four-day event will be attended by lawyers, judges, legal academics and stakeholders in the legal sector. The conference will focus on current issues in a range of areas.

LAWASIA comprises over 40 member organisations and has individual members from over 50 countries.

The theme of the jubilee is '50 Years of Supporting the Rule of Law'

The request to hold the LAWASIA conference in Sri Lanka in 2013 was made by Upul Jayasuriya who is currently heads the Organising Committee.

'All arrangemns have been made to host the event with a large number of members of the legal fraternity working round the clock", Jayasuriya said.
