The St Bridget’s Convent Under 14 netball team performed creditably when they entered the final of the All Island Milo Schools Netball Championship conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Netball Association held in Matara recently. Earlier the Bridgetine team became zonal champions in the Western Province. In the all island competition, the Bridgetines eliminated fancied Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya Kurunegala on the way to the finals where they succumbed to Holy Family Convent Kurunegala by a narrow 18-17 margin.

The match went into extra –time as scores were level at full time. The Brigetine rise is significant as it was achieved in the course of a year. The achievement of the Under 14 team is a notable one for the school. Rochelle Fernando of St Bridget’s was declared the best player in the Under 14 event. The team is coached by Geethani Kuweju, a former national player.
