JHU leader steps down

The leader of the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU), Ven. Dr. Omalpe Sobitha Thera says he resigned from the party’s leadership yesterday. Addressing the 13th National Convention of JHU he said that the decision was solely to make way for a new leader.

However, he would continue to work and support the JHU. Deputy Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Karunarathna Paranawithana and Ven. Hadigalle Wimalasara Thera were appointed as co-chairmen.

Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka was named General Secretary of the party.
