UN to leave Kilinochchi today [September 16 2008]

The United Nations will move out of the LTTE-held areas today and relocate their offices in Vavunia. The UN Office of the Resident Humanitarian Coordinator for Sri Lanka has decided to relocate its offices, following a request by the Government.

According to the UN sources, the LTTE has given an assurance that UN and humanitarian agency staff remaining in Kilinochchi will be allowed to leave, with safe passage provided to Omanthai entry/exit point, into the cleared areas. Accordingly, the UN intend moving their staff in a single convoy at 10 am today.
