Week begins on dull note [September 22 2008]

The first trading day of the week saw both indices close down for the day. The ASPI closed at 2,239 points shedding 11 points (0.50%). The MPI which tracks the most liquid stocks in the market lost 14 points to end the day at 2,512 point (-0.57%).

Market turnover reached 86.6 million with more than a third (32%) of turnover being contributed by John Keells Holdings (JKH). The share accounted for Rs. 28 million in turnover on 337,400 shares and closed the day unchanged at Rs. 85.00.

Other notable contribution to the day’s activities came from continued interest in Lanka Indian Oil Corporation (LIOC) which turned in Rs 7.5 million and Seylan Bank Non Voting Shares which contributed Rs 6.4 million to the day’s turnover. Both counters closed flat with LIOC at Rs 26.00 (on 290,700 shares) and SEYB (x) at Rs 8.00 (on 811,100 shares).
