Special Search on to Trace Jungle Based Terrorists [September 23 2008]

A SPECIAL cordon and search operation was immediately launched early this morning (23) around 6.00 a.m. when a team of Security Forces manning security points along the MENIK ganga (river) in the BLOCK 2 in KATARAGAMA area after observance of some suspected Tiger terrorists, opened fire on them.

Security Forces on duty at those points observed a movement of armed men inside thick jungles off KATARAGAMA during early hours on Tuesday (23) and closely pursued their movement.

However, those terrorists suddenly opened fire on the troops but the Security Forces responded to their fire. As the shooting escalated, terrorists withdrew further deep into the jungles.

One soldier sustained injuries in the encounter and was admitted to KATARAGAMA hospital for treatment. A well-coordinated search is on in the area at the time this report was filed.
