No Commission should be above Parliament, according to Minister of Construction and Engineering Services Dr. Rajitha Senaratne. In an interview with the national news agency Lankapuwath, the Minister has stated that any Commission whether it be public services or the Police should be independent but subject to the sovereign body of Parliament.
Dr. Senaratne added that seventeenth Amendment in the Constitution has ignored the supreme powers of the Parliament. Dr.Senaratne emphasized that in order to establish supremacy of Parliament and find fairer solutions to public grievances the independence of all Commisions could be subject to the final green light from Parliament.
