Sri Lanka Cricket targets US$ 70 million Indian Cricket Board bailout [October 09 2008]

The Ministry of Sports and the Sri Lanka Cricketers' Association (SLCA) have finalised a proposal that earn US $70 million for the local cricket governing body over the next decade. However, the proposal will have negative impact on Sri Lanka's Test tour of England next summer. The proposal, yet to be submitted to the BCCI, will require the full participation of SLC within the IPL and a similar tournament - the Champions League, for the next decade.

The proposal has been finalised after Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge ruled that the Sri Lanka players contracted to the IPL will be released from the tour of England. The SLC officials, with a meeting with the Sports Minister, admitted it would be impossible to honour the the two-Test series in England.
