Makeshift bridge commissioned in Bentota today [October 12 2008]

Traffic along the main Colombo-Galle highway returned to normal after a makeshift bridge was commissioned today to replace the old Bentota bridge which was collapsed on Saturday.

The double century-year-old Bentota bridge collapsed yesterday halting all vehicle movements between Galle and Colombo for almost 20 hours. Vehicles to and from Galle were channeled through Mathugama and Elpitiya. But Police sources said with the new temporary bridge in place vehicle movements are routed back in the Galle Road from Bentota to Galle.
