2009 budget proposals on November 6th [October 20 2008]

The UPFA Government’s Budget for 2009 is expected to be presented to the Parliament on November 6. Government sources said it will be a “people’s friendly” budget that would further boost country’s rural economy.

The proposed budget includes increased allocations for national security and defence, nation building, road development, health, education, electricity and energy, agriculture and estate infrastructure development.

Minister of Finance and State Revenue, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has said that the upcoming budget will allocate 77% more funds compared to 2008 while the deficit being managed at 5.8 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product.
