Jayalalithaa demands arrest of Thirumavalavan [September 26 2008]

AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa demanded the arrest of Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi leader Thol Thirumavalavan and his colleague Vanniarasu and film director Rama Narayanan under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for articulating anti-national views in support of the LTTE, a banned organisation.

In a statement here, she said the government should remove Mr. Rama Narayanan from the post of the president of the Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram. Jayalalithaa said film directors Seeman and Ameer were arrested only after she questioned the motive of the government in arresting MDMK general secretary Vaiko and party's presidium chairman M. Kannappan, and leaving others.

Questioning why Seeman and Ameer were not arrested when they were participating in the human chain, she said their arrest after the protest only showed that it was a ritual. She also asked why no action was taken against those who attacked Subramanian Swamy's Janata Party office in Madurai.
