Around 25 members of Chennai Students Association were taken into custody last morning for taking out a procession in protest against the military operations in Sri Lanka's Northern Province. The protesters were prevented by the police near the Periyar statue on Anna Salai, and taken to Chintadripet police station. They were later released on bail, police said.
Protestors raised slogans in support of the Lankan Tamils. Protesters also urged the Union government to send more help to the affected Tamils in the island nation in form of food, medicine and other essential items. However, the Indian government has pledged support to Sri Lanka's battle against terrorism.
