England abandon plans to send Panesar to Sri Lanka [October 31 2008]

England has abandoned plans to send Monty Panesar to Sri Lanka. Panesar is likely to join the England high-performance camp in India next month as the ECB has confirmed the spinner's proposed refresher course in Sri Lanka has fallen through. Panesar had been scheduled to join up with Bloomfield in Colombo next week but the arrangement fell through when the club reportedly demanded £7,000 for Panesar to play for them.

Mushtaq Ahmed, who has been hired as a spin-bowling coach by the ECB, has severed his ties with the rebel Indian Cricket League at the request of his new employer. The former Pakistan and Sussex leg-spinner cited the knee problem which led to his retirement from the longer game last season.
