President appoints Economic Advisory Committee [November 02 2008]

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has appointed an Economic Advisory Committee (EAC) to provide him with necessary advice and suggestions in the development of a strong economy at a time when the whole world is hit by an economic depression. This Committee is represented by renowned University professors, Lecturers, and senior economic Advisors. The Committee met with the President, Ministers and senior government officers.

It was the view of the Committee that in developing the economy of the country national security is a prerequisite and a national investment. The Committee also suggested that for an efficient economic management it was necessary to get together all the professionals and senior hands together and get their views in different professions and skills.

The development of the East is now taking place and in Mannar alone about 280Km of roads have been constructed in raising infrastructure development. The President stated that the honour of the success of these development works should go to the security forces. A parallel line to the A-9 is being completed and connected to the liberated villages.
