Over dozen terrorist killed [December 06 2008]

Over a dozen terrorists were reported killed and similar numbers injured following an Army assault at an LTTE strong point located Northeast of Olumadu area in Mullaittivu district on Friday. Heavy fighting ensued between Task Force 3 troops and LTTE in the area, since the morning hours and lasted till 5.15 p.m., military sources said. According to Wanni military sources, troops have uncovered 4 slain LTTE bodies, 5 T-56 assault riffles and 50 anti-personnel (AP) mines during subsequent search operations conducted yesterday (6).

Meanwhile, Army forward domination elements have confirmed observing five more LTTE bodies scattered in the area. These bodies are yet to be recovered, as troops are still consolidating defences in the area, the sources said. Terrorists have dashed into the thick jungles leaving the dead following the multi-pronged military onslaught launched by the TF 3 combined infantry and armour battalions. Intercepted LTTE communication has revealed that many other terrorists were also left scattered with the Army offensive, as LTTE transmission further confirmed soaring casualties in addition to the dead.
