Vlayarmadam Liberated; more hostages rescued

Sri Lankan soldiers of 58 Division have liberated Valayarmadam area, rescuing hundreds more civilians held hostage by LTTE terrorists.

According to the defence sources, Army Commandos and Special Forces soldiers backed by infantrymen of 10 Sri Lanka Light Infantry, and 12 Gemunu Watch entered into the area last evening, and engaged in mop up operation.

Troops declared the area fully secured this morning (Apr 26). So far, soldiers have been able to rescue over 500 hostages, the sources added.

Valayarmadam is situated just 6km short of Vellamullivaikkal, the last remaining LTTE hideout.
