International Community is not attempting to save Prabhakaran

British Foreign Minister David Miliband said the international community is not attempting to save LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran and that they are only concerned about the civilians caught up in the conflict. He said that international calls for a ceasefire were “only to save civilians” and not to help the Tamil Tigers.

“Sri Lanka’s military advances have been spectacular, but winning the peace is as vital as winning the war,” Miliband said.

The British Foreign Minister and his French counterpart Bernard Kouchner are here on a visit to obtain first hand information on the civilians who arrived into government controlled areas after the military mounted operations to rescue them from LTTE clutches.

The Ministers today visited Chettikulam to see the IDP centres there.
