Sanga returns to world No.1 spot

Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara, following his fighting century to save the third Test against Pakistan at SSC grounds last week, has regained the top spot of the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings for Test batsmen replacing Indian Gautam Gambhir.

The 31-year-old wicket keeper batsman cracked an unbeaten 130 not out in the second innings to force the third Test to a draw. Sri Lanka has won the first two Test matches and already clinched the 3-Test series. Pakistan captain Younus Khan meanwhile, dropped four places from second to sixth place in the latest rankings.

Sangakkara, a consistent batsman filling the dual role as Sri Lanka's wicket keeper, has been at the top spot before at the end of 2007 and in 2008. He has been in the top five since the end of 2006.

Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardena drops one place to ninth position while the newcomer Angelo Mathews placed 11 places up at the 91st breaking into the top 100.

In the bowlers rankings Sri Lanks's star spinner Muttiah Muralitharan remained at the no.2 position behind South Africa's Dale Steyn while Rangana Herath moved up six places to 42nd after his impressive five-wicket haul in the second innings.
