SB ousted from Kandy

The UNP.s Advisory Committee has turned down a request from its National Organiser and Central Province Opposition Leader S B Dissanayake to be appointed as its Chief Organiser for Hewaheta electorate in the Kandy District.

The party advisory Committee, appointed by its Working Committee, took this decision after a senior party leader has allegedly opposed Dissanayake a place from Kandy District.

The former Youth Affairs and Sports Minister of Chandrika Kumaratunga-led PA Government, topped the preferential list at the last Central Provincial Council Election polling a record 181,783.

However, Renuka Herath who obtained lesser number of preferential votes than Dissanayake, has been given the Galagedera electorate, switching on from Walapane and Shanthini Kongahage who came eleventh in the list given Ududumbara electorate. Unconfirmed reports said UNP's General Secretary Tissa Attanayake and Kandy district stalwart Lakshman Kiriella have opposed Dissanayake's request. The report added that Attanayake has even threatened to resign if Dissanayake is given the Hewaheta electorate.
