President opens Rs. 525 million Katugastota bridge

Mahinda Rajapakse today declared open the new Katugastota Bridge in the Kandy District. The bridge, with four lanes, connects the Kandy town and the districts of Matale and Kurunegala.

The new bridge is 130 metres in length and 20 metres wide. The total cost for the construction work of this bridge is Rs. 525million out of which 70% was borne by the Kingdom of Kuwait.

The bridge was completed in less than four years will be a timely solution to the problem of traffic congestion in the city of Kandy.

Ministers T.B. Ekanayake, Rajitha Senaratne, Sarath Amunugama, Keheliya Rambukwella, along with Chief Minister of the Central Province, Sarath Ekanayake and Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa graced the occasion.
