<P>President opens Rs. 525 million Katugastota bridge

<P>Mahinda Rajapakse today declared open the new Katugastota Bridge in the Kandy District. The bridge, with four lanes, connects the Kandy town and the districts of Matale and Kurunegala.

<P>The new bridge is 130 metres in length and 20 metres wide. The total cost for the construction work of this bridge is Rs. 525million out of which 70% was borne by the Kingdom of Kuwait.

<P>The bridge was completed in less than four years will be a timely solution to the problem of traffic congestion in the city of Kandy. 

<P>Ministers T.B. Ekanayake, Rajitha Senaratne, Sarath Amunugama, Keheliya Rambukwella, along with Chief Minister of the Central Province, Sarath Ekanayake and Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa graced the occasion.
