President assumes G-15 Chairmanship

President Rajapaksa assuming the G-15 Chairmanship at the Summit has given an assurance to strengthen the voice of the Group in the international sphere. The President pointed out that it is more suitable to appoint a task force comprising individuals experienced in various fields to mould a development process targeting the people.

The 15th G-15 Conference of State leaders opened in Tehran this afternoon. Iranian President Mahamed Ahamedenijad who held the Chairmanship of the group handed it over to President Rajapaksa at the commencement of the conference. Accordingly, the 15th Conference of the G-15 leaders is due to be held in Sri Lanka. Giving views at the meeting, the President said Sri Lanka will be extending her maximum support to the Group in its efforts so that the voice of the G-15 Group is heard in the entire world. The President appreciated the contribution made by the Iranian President who held the Chairmanship of the Group for the continued maintenance of the group’s great tradition and achieving its objectives.
