UNP Alternate Wing to be formed A new UNP breakaway group – United National Party Alternate Wing, is set to emerge before the end of this month. However, rebel MP Sajith Premadasa will not join this group.

But a senior UNP parliamentarian in charge of the formation of the United National Party Alternate Wing, said Premadasa will give them the “moral and logistical support”.

“All our endeavours to introduce reforms to the UNP was a futile attempt as the leader is not flexible. We will remain as the UNP members but would form the new UNP Alternate Wing,” the UNP Parliamentarian from Kurunegala District told the Observer Online today.

Nearly 30 UNP Members of Parliament have the Leader of the Opposition and Party Leader, Ranil Wickremesinghe to resolve party’s internal crisis before the Parliament convened on September 21. “If he continues to turn deaf ear, we have no alternative but to form the UNP Alternate Wing,” the MP said.
