Abandoned Northern paddy lands under plough

<P>Plans are under way to cultivate over 54,000 acres of abandoned paddy lands in the Northern Province in the up coming maha season. 

<P>Facilitating the Northern farmers to acheive this target, farming equipment and seed paddy were handed over to them today at the Agrarian Services Centre in Kilinochchi.  

<P>The Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa distributed the items among the farmers. Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise development Minister Douglas Devananda, Northern Province Governor Maj.Gen. G.A. Chandrasiri were also present.
