LLR Commission to meet in Killinochchi from tomorrow

[September 15 2010]

The Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) appointed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, will hold a three-day public session in Killinochchi from tomorrow.

The eight members of the LLRC who met President Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees yesterday brought the measures that require only changes in administrative practices to Presidents attention.

Among the immediate measures suggested are, ensuring facilities to members of the public to use their own language in official transactions with government departments, especially the ability to make statements to the police in ones own language.

The measures suggested by the Commission are drawn from the evidence the LLRC n gathered from the citizens in the former conflict ridden areas when it held public sessions in those areas last month and from the evidence given by other individuals and organizations.
