A local court in Dubai sentenced a Sri Lankan national to death after he was found guilty of killing a fellow Sri Lankan. The 23-year-old Sri Lankan, identified as Ruwan Kumara Hinatiyala was found guilty of murdering the husband of his mistress by stabbing him.
The Dubai Court of Cassation turned down an appeal by the accused and upheld the verdict of the Court of Appeal which sentenced him to death after he was found guilty of premeditated murder.
The UAE criminal court had sentenced the accused to life imprisonment after he was convicted, followed with deportation after the expiry of his sentence. Later the Court of Appeal had changed the sentence to death penalty.
