Two pedestrians were knocked down by a recklessly driven van and one, a woman succumbed to her injuries on admission to the Kegalle Hospital, Police Media Spokesman Superintendent of Police, Prishantha Jayakody said.
The deceased identified as E. A. Nandawathie, a 54 year old woman is a resident of Uttipugoda.
The injured man is receiving treatment at the Kegalle General hospital. The accident occurred at a pedestrian crossing on the Colombo Kandy road between the 69th and the 70th mile post around 7.30 pm on Wednesday. The driver of the van has been taken into custody, police said.
