CCD to probe Rs. 70 million robbery       [September 25 2010]

The investigations of the Rs. 70 million robbery has been handed over to the Colombo Crime Division (CCD).

The van, which belongs to the Transnational Logistic Lanka Pvt Ltd that transported cash of the HSBC to replenish cash to eight ATM machines, was found abandoned in Peliyagoda.

When setting off from Colombo there was Rs. 92 million in the van and Rs. 24 million was filled in ATMs in Negombo and Wattala.

The van was stopped by five people in police uniforms carrying T-56 in an isolated area in Wanawasala. The security officers were held at gun point and robbed the money along with the weapons of the security officers.

Three police teams are probing the incident under the CCD while the Peliyagoda Police are also conducting investigations.
