Schools in Jaffna HSZs to re-open [September 28 2010]

The government has taken a decision to re-open schools in the High Security Zones (HSZs) in Jaffna from today.

The Vasavilan Central College, which is the first school to be re-opened, in the Palali High Security Zone is handed over to children today.

The school, which was closed after the location was declared as a HSZ in 1990, temporarily functioned in Urumbiray in Jaffna.

After 20 years, the school is re-opened for its 1,352 students who are studying at the school now.

The school buildings will be reconstructed with ADB funds, which allocated over Rs. 60 million for the school development.
