Coal power before end of December [September 29 2010]    

Power generated from the country’s first coal power plant -Norochcholai Coal power project  (NCPP) - will be added to the national grid before the end of December and the first vessel carrying coal will reach Colombo before the end of October, Power and Energy Ministry sources said.

According to Ministry sources, 95 percent of the first phase of the NCPP has been completed and the trial runs for power generation are being done at the moment.

The NCPP with an estimated cost of US $ 891 will be added 300 Mw to the national grid in December and another 600 Mw in two phases. Ministry sources said the second and third phases will  commenced by 2013.
