CMC seeks more public support to keep dengue at bay         [October 02 2010]

With the onset of the North and East monsoons, the Colombo health authorities urge the residents to concern more cleanliness to keep another dengue outbreak at bay.

Chief of the CMC Public Health Department Dr. Pradeep Kariyawasam said out of 1,473 houses and public and private institutions, which were inspected by the CMC during the last few weeks, over 90 of them were mosquito breeding hot spots.

“ We have issued notices to thirty of them”, he said adding that people while cleaning their premises need to support the cleaning programs commenced by the CMC together with the Army to make the city free of dengue mosquitoes.

He said due to successful cleaning campaign carried out by the CMC the number of dengue cases in September came down to 61 and it was 434 in July and 230 in august. The total number of dengue cases reported within the CMC city limits from January to September was 1,767.
