Chinthana Vithanage takes Lion flag as Commonwealth Games begin [October 03 2010]

The X1Xth edition of the Commonwealth Games began in New Delhi today with a spectacular opening ceremony which silenced critics after weeks of uncertainty. Sri Lanka’s former weightlifting gold medallist Chinthana Vidanage proudly carried Lion flag at the colourful opening ceremony before a packed stadium.

Swimmer Heshan Unamboowe will be the first Sri Lankan to be seen inaction when he competes in the Men’s 50m backstroke heats, followed by Mathew Abeysinghe (400m freestyle) and Conrad Francis (Men’s 50m breaststroke) at the SP Mukharjee swimming complex.

Sri Lankan archers, Shuttlers, gymnasts and weight lifters (56kg) will also be seen in action at the Yamuna Sports Complex, Siri Forts Sports Complex, IG Sports Complex and JN Sports Complex which are located around City.
