A modern housing complex for Colombo slum dwellers     [October 06 2010]

Over 65,000 Colombo slum dwellers will get houses under the Colombo city beautification program. A separate housing project has been designed for slum dwellers and each house will cost 2.5 million.

This was revealed by the Defence Secretary Gothabaya Rajapaksa at a ceremony held to mark the World Heritage Day, yesterday.

He denied the allegations that the lands belong to the slum dwellers acquired to use for commercial purposes. Secretary said the  Slum dwellers would get all the necessary facilities - a hospital and  a schools.
