Ambassador Wickramasuriya continue to talk to US Senators     [October 09 2010]

Sri Lanka continues to brief the US on the progress made in post conflict activities, including resettlement, rehabilitation of ex-LTTE cadres and reconciliation in Sri Lanka after ending terrorism.

Sri Lanka Ambassador to the US Jaliya Wickramasuriya, who commenced the series of meetings with Congress members in September, held a discussion with Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana.

While some in the U.S. have pressed for an international inquiry into the conflict’s final days, Ambassador Wickramasuriya assured members of Congress that Sri Lanka to find the best solution for healing the three decades long conflict would achieve through its internal and public examination commission - the Lessons Learned and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC).

Explaining the progress made so far in resettlement he said most displaced were resettled within 10 months, while the global average of refugees remaining displaced is 17 years.

He invited the lawmakers to visit Sri Lanka and to press for more U.S. investment to Sri Lanka.
