Chaminda fourth in final [October 12 2010]

Sri Lanka’s veteran middle distance runner Chaminda Wijekoon, competing after suffering from a leg injury at the end of Monday’s first round, clocked three minutes and 42.93 seconds to finish fourth in the men’s 1500m final of the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi today.

Running before a capacity crowed at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the Indian capital this evening, Wijekoon was slower than his 3:40.78 registered in the first round. He was in the sixth place before the final bend but recovered well to go pass Kenyan Gideon Mwangi and Englishman Andrew Baddeley. Kenyan Silas Kiplagat won the gold in 3:41.78 seconds while James Kiplangat won the silver with 3 minutes 42.27 seconds.
