Sri Lanka’s growth rate strong and steady – Ambassador Wickramasuriya [October 13 2010]

Pledging to offer facilities for the US investors who are keen in investing in the North, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the US Jaliya Wickramasuriya said that country’s growth rate was steady and strong and needed international investments.

He said the government was investing US $ one billion to rebuild the Northern infrastructure which was in bad shape during the past 30-years and Jaffna and the North would emerge as Sri Lanka’s one of a major economic hub soon.

Addressing the two day conference on ‘US-Sri Lanka Private-Public Partnership’ in Colombo today he said the government had given its prime concentration to develop the North and some massive development projects were already underway.

“ The government is putting new roads, buildings, water tanks, bridges, railroad lines and irrigation systems in the North”, he said.

A team of senior US government officials in the trade sector and top US investors are now in Sri Lanka to explore the investment opportunities in the North.
