Northern railway track launch later next month

Construction work of the two Northern railway track will be delayed my one month as Indian External Affairs Minister S M Krishna’s visit to Sri Lanka has been postponed. Construction work of the railway tracks from Omanthai to Palali and Madawachchiya to Talai Mannar were to be launched under the patronage of Krishna later this month.

However, the Indian External Affairs Minister’s visit has now been put off by a month and the launch of the constriction work would also be held up until later next month. Minister Krishna was due in Colombo for the India-Sri Lankan Joint Commission meeting. Krishna, who was to chair the Commission, was to be in the island nation on October 28 and 29 as per the previous plan, but the Ministry of External Affairs in Colombo announced that the Indian Minister will now be touring Sri Lanka from November 25 and 28.

Indian sources told Express that the change was necessitated due to the clash of dates of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Japan fixed for October and the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s visit to China.
