Iran grants Rs. 6 billion rupees for electrification projects [October 18 2010]

Iran has provided a grant of Rs. six billion rupees for electricity development projects in the Northwestern Province, following the recent discussions between President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Rs. four billion rupees of the Iranian grant would be allocated for the Kurunegala district and the balance Rs. two billion rupees for the Puttalam district.

More than 670 small-scale electricity projects have been planned for implementation in the Northwestern Province. Soft loans will be granted to Samurdhi families in the province for wiring their houses under the project.
