Appropriation Bill presented [October 19 2010]

Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne presented the Appropriation Bill in Parliament to provide for the services of financial year 2011. The Bill presented to the House has estimated total government expenditure for the next financial year will be Rupees one thousand and eighty billion nine hundred and sixty seven million seven hundred and sixty six thousand.

The highest allocation has been made to the Defence Ministry. It stood at Rs. 215,219,640,000. A sum of Rs. 75,246,585,000 has been allocated for the Economic Development Ministry. Health Ministry’s allocation stood at Rs. 62,259,606,000 while Highways Ministry has been allocated a sum of Rs. 102,229,715,000. Accordingly the second highest sum after the Defence Ministry has been made to the Highways Ministry.
