Northern religious dignitaries discuss reintegration [October 21 2010]

Buddhist, Hindu and Christian religious dignitaries in Vavuniya, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu are now discussing to help the rehabilitated ex-LTTE cadres to lead a normal life in their respective villages.

Organized by the Commissioner general of Rehabilitation Brig. Sudantha Ranaisnghe, the program is taking place at the Cultural Hall Vavuniya.

“ The objective is to explain the religious dignitaries in these areas about the process of rehabilitation, the training of ex-cadres received and their contribution to lead a peaceful life where the people in their respective areas recognize them as one of them”, he said.

Over 4,000 ex-LTTE cadres have been sent home after the completion of successful rehabilitation program including vocational training.

Upto May 2009, over 11,000 LTTE cadres , including child soldiers, surrendered to the military and half of them have been released in batches.
