Galle Road expansion soon after Wellawatte repair [October 22 2010]

The Special Commissioner of the Colombo Muncipal Council Omar Kamil told the Observer Online that steps have been taken to repair the section of Galle road near Roxy theatre Wellawatta within the next three weeks after the repair of the collapsed sewerage line.

He said the CMC is working along with the contractor to repair this immediately, following a directive by the President recently at the Western Province development meeting held in Panadura.

He said the collapse of the road was due to the burst of the sewerage lines which were laid in late 1980s under project by the National Water Supply and Drainage Board and the CMC is now working along with the a Asian Development Bank funded project to rehabilitate and reconstruct the city sewerage system at a cost of US $ 100 million.
