An elderly woman was knocked down by a lorry when she was trying to cross the road on the 2th Mile Post at Waskaduwa in the Kalutara North police area around 11.30 am, yesterday.
The injured woman who was admitted to the National Hospital Colombo succumbed to her injuries yesterday. The deceased have been identified as Seelawathie Gunewardena (78) a resident of Waskaduwa. The lorry driver has been taken into custody by the Kalutara North police. (JJ)
