SL Rupee appreciates against USD

<P>Sri Lanka Rupee has appreciated against the US dollar as the country’s economy continued to show an upward trend. 

<P>The rupee closed firmer on Monday at 111.70/72 a dollar from Thursday’s 111.76/78 as central bank lowered the trading band by 10 cents to 111.30/70. The banking sector index led the fall with top listed lender Commercial Bank <http://COMB.CM>COMB.CM shedding 2.18 percent to 265.10 rupees and Sampath Bank <http://SAMP.CM>SAMP.CM losing 1.1 percent to close at 295.10.
