CDB to investigate on Norochcholai fire [October 25 2010]

The Crime Detection Bureau (CDB) of Sri Lanka Police has been called to investigate the fire that broke out at the Norochcolai coal power plant. The Police investigations have now been handed over to the CDB which will file a full report on the incident after a through investigation.

Meanwhile, the Power and Energy Minister Champika Ranawaka said the Government would not bare the costs for the damages caused by the accidental fire at the Norochcholai coal power plant. He told newsmen that the Chinese construction company will have to pay for the damages caused due to the accidental fire. The cost of the damage is yet to be evaluated.

The incident will not have any impact on original plan of adding electricity from the Norochcholai power plant to the national grid in January next year. The first ship transporting coal for the power plant is scheduled to reach Sri Lanka on November 23.
