Sri Lanka coach Trevor Bayliss to quit after World Cup [October 25 2010]

Sri Lanka is likely to lose its national cricket coach after next year’s ICC World Cup tournament. Australian Trevor Bayliss has indicated plans to quit as the coach of Sri Lanka after next years World Cup, having competed a three-year stint.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Bayliss, the former New South Wales coach, was keen to spend more time with his family living in Sydney. "Im on the lookout for a new job," Bayliss was quoted as saying.

Bayliss is currently in Sydney with the Sri Lanka team which is down to play Australia in a three-match one day international series.

Bayliss is optimistic of his team’s chances at the 2011 World Cup in the sub continent. "The boys got a good chance in this World Cup coming up, and Im looking forward to it very much," Bayliss has said.

During his stint as coach, Sri Lanka has won 11 out of 25 Tests and 41 of 78 ODIs. Sri Lanka is currently placed third in the ICC Test rankings and fourth in the ICC one-day international ratings.

Bayliss, who has played only 58 first class matches for NSW, was appointed as Sri Lanka coach in 2007 to replace fellow Australian Tom Moody.
